This 1965 Mercury Commuter station wagon in beautiful condition and it shows! Very clean inside and out and was purchased by its late previous owner in 2005 and kept as part of his collection until his passing in 2020. An excellent opportunity to own a well preserved Mercury Wagon that is sure to impress.
The car is powered by a 390ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, and is equipped with a heater/defroster, a power-operated tailgate window, and a cargo-area storage compartment. Service in November 2020 included a fuel tank repair as well as replacement of the tires, shocks, fuel pump, battery, and exhaust components. The Wagon is ready for the open road.
The wagon wears aged paint as well as plaques affixed to both front doors showing the owners’ farm and first names. The hood and front header panel were repainted in 2005 to alleviate fading. Minor rust is noted in the bottoms of the tailgate and right front fender. Details include faux front and rear vents as well as a drop-down tailgate with a power-operated window.
Steel wheels wear full covers and 225/70 Nexen whitewall tires that were mounted in 2020. Braking is handled by power-assisted front and rear drums.
The cabin houses front and rear bench seats upholstered in black vinyl along with matching door panels and faded carpets. A two-spoke steering wheel frames gauges including a 120-mph speedometer with a five-digit odometer showing 18k miles which is believed to be accurate however title is listed as Exempt for its age.
The 390ci V8 was serviced with a new battery and fuel pump in November 2020. Power is routed through a column-shifted three-speed automatic transmission. The car intermittently requires having the transmission in neutral to start.
Overall an excellent example of a well kept 1965 Mercury Commuter. It’s a very solid wagon that’s ready for cruise nights and carting the family and friends around.
